I live in the Pacific Northwest (Puget Sound area -- a.k.a. Pugetopolis) with five furry balls of love. I consider this area to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. My father introduced me to computers at a very early age, and I was programming BASIC on an Atari 800 when I was in first grade. I never did much like programming, it was too dry and left-brained for me. I pretty much gave up on the idea (except for video games) until the Mac came out. All hail the graphical user interface (GUI). My dad would never buy me a Mac, though, and I can't say I blame him. (He liked to build his own computers... no open architecture with a Mac.) So when Windows95 came out, I promptly switched back to the PC (I like to build my own computers, too) and dove into everything GUI I could find. This led me to Web work which was a combination of "code," art and writing; my three loves. I gobbled up everything I could learn. |

Later, I earned a B.A. in English from St. Louis University, a fine, fine Jesuit institution, and shortly after graduation, moved out to the Pacific Northwest. On the West Coast I found that I was able to combine my love of writing with my hobby in computers and make Real Good Money™ as a Technical Writer with a focus on Web content. However, all that got derailed when I became disabled with recalcitrant daily migraines and Addison's disease. Regular 9 to 5 work was right out. I’m currently exploring what I can do at home: freelance writing, blogging for dollars, artwork… but mostly I depend on my disability checks. Beyond my profession, I'm one of those freaky people who has totally embraced the Communication Age, and as such I have friends across the country and world. I don't get to see them as often as I'd like, but I find that LiveJournal.com is a great way for me to still feel a part of their lives. Thanks for stopping by! |
